From without and within

As one part of major works being undertaken by Hector Abrahams Architects for St John’s College at The University of Sydney, new dormer windows have been created on the roof of the Polding Wing. The dormers are providing additional bedrooms for student accommodation within the roof space of the building. Looking out, the occupants will be able to enjoy enviable views across the quadrangle towards the tower designed by William Wardell. The overall vision of the masterplan developed for the college by HAA in collaboration with Cox Architecture is to provide top quality facilities for all aspects of student life – a new library, informal rooms for student activities, improved bathrooms, kitchenettes and bedrooms – at the same time preserving the integrity of the college buildings which date from the 1860s.
