Inner West Council Town Halls

  • The most intricate work required the replacement of the kitchen’s flat roof in copper. The membrane of the existing roof had failed due to the unsatisfactory design. Instead, it was proposed to install a more steeply pitched copper tray roof to allow the proper shedding of watering and flashing between the roof and building. This new design required the sensitive adaptation of existing windows - noticeable to those with sharp eyes.

Not far down the road is St Peters Town Hall, also built in the 1920s, where a set of similar and very different issues were addressed. Sensitive conservation of the façade included a more attractive colour scheme and new window screens. A more significant and obvious change is the new accessible entry ramp into the building, which houses the local branch of the Inner West Library. The ramp now gives equitable access via the front forecourt and the front entry door for everyone. New lighting, landscaping, and planting complete the update.

The work on St Peters Town Hall received a Commendation in the 2024 Inner West Built Environment Awards.

  • HAA has also undertaken significant work, including a stunning new colour scheme on the Leichhardt Town Hall. This colour scheme is a source of many compliments. It can be seen here
