Ravensworth Homestead and Estate
HAA carried out an independent assessment of the impacts of Glendell Continued Operations Project on the Ravensworth Homestead and Estate. Ravensworth Estate is located within the proposed expansion of Glendell mine in the Hunter Valley Coalfields.
The Homestead is a locally listed building with significant associations with the Wonnarua people of the Hunter Valley. The Estate is representative of colonisation of the 1820s to 1840s and is a good example of a colonial bungalow and the domestic lifestyle of a 19th century setting.
This report formed part of a rigorous public assessment process to understand the impact on the Homestead’s significance by the unusual proposal to dismantle and relocate the building. The assessment found that the intact relocation of the homestead preserves more aspects of significance than the other considered options. The report also suggested opportunities for further mitigation.
